For Great Exuma climate there is always a danger of a hurricane bearing down on the Island. The hurricane tracks are far of Great Exuma but winds can take them anywhere.

Although Great Exuma is better adapted to dealing with hurricanes because its people have become used to them and are more aware of their impact. And there are places of substantial elevation.

Great Exuma climate - a reason to plan your trip now

Great Exuma, Bahamas is located on the Tropic of Cancer. With sunshine on most days and a pleasant breeze to keep it from getting too stuffy, visitors and residents of Exuma say that the climate is even better over-all than Florida. The average temperature is 78 degrees! With the temperatures being so generally perfect, the water temperature is great as well. Instead of hesitating as you walk into the clear, tropical ocean, you actually feel comfortable immersing yourself in the shallow water surrounding the island. This means that you can swim, snorkel and enjoy the water all year long! So, you will need to make sure that you have sunscreen to wear. You will also need an abundance of bathing suits for your stay here. Imagine that you take a morning sail and swim. You go have breakfast and realize that you want to take another dip in the water. Since no one likes to put on a damp bathing suit, you better make sure that you have more than one to put on while you are here. Another note on bathing suits is that you will not catch the local people wearing bathing suits in Town. Bathing suits are fine for the beach or boat, but even in a small town like George Town there are certain rules of propriety. Thus far, you need sunscreen and more than one bathing suit not a problem right? The islands of the Bahamas have earned their reputation as popular tourist destinations in large part due to the weather. The islands have a temperate climate of 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year, and the sun is almost always shining. To enjoy your trip to the Bahamas to the fullest, it is wise to be aware of the dangers of the sun and protect yourself from its potentially dangerous ultra-violet rays. Short of staying out of the sun completely, the best method of sun protection is to wear sunscreen. Dermatologists recommend that you wear a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 8, but an SPF 15 is generally thought to be ideal. Sunscreen should be applied liberally 30 minutes prior to sun exposure and should be reapplied throughout the day. Different skin types will handle the suns rays in varying degrees. Ensure yourself that the SPF protection in your sunscreen will suffice by carefully assessing your skin and its needs. Be aware that the suns rays are hottest between the hours of 11 am and approximately 3 pm. During this time, it is wise to give your skin some time out of the sun; perhaps you can take refuge under the shady palm trees.
